Biography

Dr. Zachary Walker is an educator, author, and international speaker.  He is an Associate Professor and Academic Head of Teaching and Learning with the Department of Psychology and Human Development. He holds a PhD in Education, an MBA in International Business, an MA in English Language Learning, and a BS in Human Development.  Zachary leads the Masters in Special Education and Inclusive Education (MASIE) and Masters in International Leadership in Inclusive Education (MAILIE) graduate programs at IOE.

Recognized as an expert in innovation,  leadership, and inclusion, Zachary has worked with institutions, businesses, and policymakers in more than 30 countries over the last five years. He skillfully weaves current organizational theory with practical examples while challenging audiences to recognize and address the challenges they encounter..  Zachary teaching is provocative and uniquely uplifting. His compelling, practical style has been described as “inspiring” and “brutally honest” at the same time. Zachary works with his students to foster personal and professional improvements that are relevant, dynamic, and motivating.

Zachary is the author of Teaching the Last Backpack Generation, a book based on his experience as a teacher and leader in both the public and private sectors. It highlights many of the practical ideas and proven techniques Zachary shares with his audiences that enable organizations to fully engage and utilize the potential of Millenials and Generation Z's.   His next book is forthcoming and is entitled, 12 Questions for Education and Business Leaders.

Zachary's current work focuses on the culture of innovative teaching and learning, inclusive leadership, and neuroscience. He has delivered presentations and workshops for educators in North America, Central America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. In addition to his interests in education and business, Zachary enjoys playing tackle chess, doing cold yoga, and catching rhinos with his bare hands.
