Research Summary

- Current Ph.D. research project (From 2019 until now):

In this project, the exploration of communication practices on mobile media between Chinese students and their distant parents is the focus. In terms of the theoretical framework, mobile communication theories and family communication theories are underpinned. In my research, family power dynamics, the resilience of parents and children, control and surveillance, as well as education and reverse education, which is implied in digital family communication practices, are taken into account. Methodologically, this study draws on digital ethnographic approaches, including digital diary and post-diary Interview. Thematic analysis is adopted as the primary data analysis method in this project.

- UCL's research project: East and South East Asian students' experience in UCL (From 2021 to 2022)

In this colonel-level project, I led an investigation into the experiences of Chinese and East Asian students at UCL in relation to racial discrimination. The primary purpose of this research was to build a sketch of the experience of racial discrimination on campus, which could be applied as a significant reference for UCL to improve its student services further and combat racial discrimination. This project mainly employed a mixed research approach which included online questionnaire, focus group, and in-depth interview.
