Exploring Urbanisation and Globalisation in Place: A study of Kilburn
Two sessions on urbanisation and globalisation 'in place' were held with A-Level students at St. Augustine's High School in Kilburn, London. The aim of the sessions was to examine the concepts of ‘urbanisation’ and ‘globalisation’ as both separate and related ideas. We looked at them not only as abstract ideas but also as very real processes that affect and help to create places.
We did this with a focus on Kilburn; looking at how the area has become urbanised over time and how it both reflects globalisation and also helps to reproduce it. The student participants were asked to identify and evaluate the effects of these processes in Kilburn through discussions and writing a blog.
This engagement was funding by UCL Widening Participation.
