Purinergic Control of Smooth Muscle
Non-adrenergic, non-cholinergic (NANC) inhibition of smooth muscle tone in the gut is mediated by three different kinds of transmission processes: purinergic, peptidergic and nitrergic. Of these, the purinergic control of smooth muscle tone is poorly understood. A better understanding of the nature and role of purinergic receptors in the gut may offer brand new approaches to weight control.
