Informal Music Learning in the Classroom: deepening understanding, widening scope
Esmee Fairbairn Charitable Trust The research is an analysis of qualitative data arising from a three-year practice-based curriculum research and development project. The project involved the development and evaluation of new methods of learning and teaching music in the secondary classrooms, drawn from the informal learning practices of young popular musicians. The methods will be analysed in order to further understanding of children's musical development and the role of the teacher and classroom, especially in relation to progression, creativity, the nature of musical skills, knowledge, motivation and participation.
