A randomised controlled trial into the clinical and cost effectiveness of a developed cognitive-behaviourally based Victim Improvement Package (VIP) for the treatment of depression and anxiety in older victims of crime (The VIP Trial).
Older victims of crime will be identified and screened by police safer neighbourhood teams. If significantly anxious or depressed on the PHQ9 or GAD2 they will be signposted to their GP. The will then be rescreened for distress at 3 months post crime and if still distressed and statisfying entry criteria, entered into an RCT comparing usual care with the addition of a cognitive behavioural informed victim improvement package.
