Drivers of Regional Growth and Economic Development (DORGED)
Together with colleagues at the Institute for Social Research in Norway and NBER in the US we analyse firm and workplace data to address the role of regional business costs, public employment, the localization of technology and skills, and the impact of global competition for job creation at the regional level. We address the following questions: under what regional circumstances, does the creation of a new job causes the creation of additional jobs, how successful are different kinds of regional support programmes in affecting business location and job creation, and when do local conditions matters for foreign/international firms behaviour? What is the role of technology and skills for regional development, and what is the interplay between globalization and local conditions?
