Accessible Bus Routes in Brighton and Hove
The project team is working with Brighton and Hove Council on the progressive development of accessible bus stops in Brighton and Hove. We helped the local engineers develop skills in the design of accessible bus stops along two routes which cross the city. This included an audit of all the bus stops on these routes and an assessment of what would be required to make them accessible. We carried out a review of the project during 2000 to see whether or not the bus stops were performing as expected, and to obtain views of residents, traders, pedestrians passengers and bus drivers about the new stop designs. The review showed that the stops had improved accessibility for people using these stops and that in general, passengers, drivers and pedestrians are satisfied with the outcome. The project is now moving forward to improve public participation in the design and implementation process.
