Absorption of rain-water in porous concrete
An observation study conducted over a year to collect empirical data on passive wind-driven rainwater run-off from the surface of vertical panels in an Urban context. The study compared observations designed to assess the water uptake in a novel porous concrete material versus water impermeable Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) concrete. Instrumentation design, installation and operation using novel resistance-based liquid-level sensors for continuous monitoring during rainfall events. Data used in assessing the bio-receptivity potential of the novel cementitious material.

To carry out this study, a practical system was developed to monitor the rain-water run-off. Incorporated into the steel-work construction through Design for Instrumentation (DfI).
