Rethinking the Andes-Amazonia Divide: A Cross-Disciplinary Exploration
This project grows out of a long-standing interdisciplinary collaboration with the historical-comparative linguist Paul Heggarty and the archaeologist David Beresford-Jones, concerned with major topics in South American history and prehistory. The current focus is on relations across the traditional divide between the Andes and the Amazon region, from deepest prehistory to the end of the colonial period. I am lead editor of a large collection of essays on this topic, in progress, bringing together contributors from the disciplines of Linguistics, Archaeology, Anthropology, Genetics, Ethnohistory, and History.
