Hydrological component of the third phase of the Hadejia-Nguru Wetlands Conservation Project (HNWCP), Northern Nigeria
The main focus of this stage of research in northern Nigeria was provision of scientifically sound, research based, technical advice on operation and monitoring of wet season releases from dams within the Hadejia-Jama’are Basin and establishment of a coordinating council within the basin. Research comprised monitoring of river flows and response within shallow aquifers and further development of the hydrological model developed for the wetland and the wider river basin. Funding source: International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB).
