Variation in referrals to Children’s Social Care services
In this study, we explore the drivers of variation in referral rates to Children's Social Care at regional and Local Authority level. We have used the national Child In Need administrative data from Children’s Social care in England alongside in-depth qualitative interviews with health and social care professionals in three sites in England. We have published the results from the administrative data (see publications tab) and the interviews results are forthcoming. The emerging findings from the interviews with professionals suggest that difference in rates between Local Authorities may be in large part driven by differences between the referral pathway and the way in which a ‘referral’ is defined.
