Transversal Writing
Transversal Writing is a research network into experimental forms of situated writing involving architectural historians, theorists and art practitioners, established by Catharina Gabrielsson and Hélène Frichot of KTH Stockholm. The close reading of shared texts and the generation of collective feedback within a workshop setting is core to the transversal method. Two phases of the network have taken place: at KTH Stockholm (2016) and at the Swedish House in Kavala, Greece (2018). The other participants were Kim Gurney, Klaske Havik, Marko Jobst, Anne Kockelkorn and Naomi Stead. A selection of texts and the shared transversal responses to them have been published in the journal Writing Place # 3, (23|12|2019), with the transversal method providing a means of generating a publishable body of peer review commentary. My contribution (with photography by Nigel Green), is entitled ‘Forays in a Modern Reserve: An Impounding Portrait of Land-Use’, a journey into the woodland landscapes of the Powdermill and Darwell reservoirs in East Sussex, UK, comprising a composite of my own notations with multiple texts of occupiers of the land over time.
