Remodelling the Book of the City of Ladies
The research studies The Book of the City of Ladies, 1405, by medieval author Christine de Pizan, who describes her construction of an allegorical city inhabited by women. Alongside historical research, I explore de Pizan’s proto-feminist work through an embodied act of drawing producing a series of artefacts that combine illumination drawing techniques with digital craft, film and immersive technologies. The main output of the research is an exhibition of drawings, objects and films, which aims to expose de Pizan’s message in a contemporary architectural context, but also to project her allegorical ‘City of Ladies’ into the future.
