Cognition X | How design media shape thought
The Bartlett School of Architecture ran a designathon / hackathon with the goal of determining if generative design systems change how designers think. The workshop explored 'How design media shape thought'. Over 5 days, 20 participants used two design systems to create and submit designs using first a 3D shape modelling application and then a generative design application.
The workshop (2017) is partly funded by Autodesk, The Bartlett School of Architecture, and Leverhulme Trust
Organisers:
Dr. Abel Maciel: Honorary Research Fellow, The Bartlett
Prof David Kirsh: visiting Professor, The Bartlett
Ava Fatah gen Schieck, Reader in Media Architecture and Urban Digital Interaction, The Bartlett
David Blezinger (alumnus MSc Adaptive Architecture and Computation)
Work done on this project extended well after the data collection phase in Feb and served as an opportunity to collaborate with faculty at the Bartlett. This remains an ongoing investigation into the impact of generative design technology on architectural design thinking.
