For many years, colleagues engaged in ‘modern cities’ around the world have been discussing the potential of establishing a professional network to help the protection, recognition and management of modern cities. In 2018, we launched the initiative in Tel Aviv with a two-day conference and the production and publication of the Tel Aviv Document, which outlines the network’s aims and objectives. The meeting, titled Modern Cities Reporting, was hosted by the Municipality of Tel Aviv and their Director of Conservation, Dr Jeremie Hoffmann. In attendance were a wide range of academics and professionals, as well as representatives from Tel Aviv, Le Havre, Casablanca, Asmara, Brasilia, Kaunas, Gdynia, and Chandigarh. A second meeting was held in Kaunas in September 2019. A third is planned for Gdynia in 2021.
