Post-MVP: Augmented Reality Framework for Automated Construction
Industry grant funding from EPIC Games MegaGrants for a post-MVP stage of the project “Augmented Reality Framework for Automated Construction.” The initial MVP phase was already supported by EPIC and led by Automated Architecture Ltd in collaboration with our sister research lab - Automated Architecture Labs - at University College London. “Augmented Reality Framework for Automated Construction” is led by Mollie Claypool, Director of Automated Architecture Ltd. The project is developing a system that allows designers and operators to more effectively interact with robots deployed on construction sites. The robots assemble prefabricated elements, with the AR system overlaying a virtual environment over the site environment. The virtual environment displays expected robot paths and predicted results of its immediate actions. While the robots follow a program to assemble designed structures, the operator is also able to modify several parameters of the program in real time, to adjust for unpredictable behaviour during assembly, or introduce changes to the assembly logic, guided by the visual feedback of the AR visualization.
