The AHRC response to the Final Report for the Alfredian Boethius Project (assessed as 'Outstanding' overall) included the following comments on 'Importance outside academia': 'The continuing public interest in Alfred will mean that the project's findings about his relationship to key texts attract a level of public attention. The popular conceptualisation of Alfred, and thereby of the development of English textual culture and English identity, will be very helpfully nuanced and complicated'.
