FROM PREVENTION TO RESILIENCE: a design framework for the 1.5 meter society
Background and problem: All over the world, public spaces are being adapted to the requirements of the 1.5 meter society. These consist of both physical interventions (deposits and demarcations, access regulation) and digital (online "pressure gauges" and other information & coordination platforms). It often concerns preventive, ad hoc interventions. They are aimed at citizens to entice / force to keep sufficient distance. However, there is still little attention for and knowledge about the possibilities of creating social and ecological resilience with such interventions. Especially at the level of the neighborhood there are opportunities here. However, it is important to take this into account keep up with vulnerable audiences. In addition, a learning (inter) national network is lacking and shared integral perspective to analyze and share practice proven solutions. Objective: This research project aims to: (1) establish an integral analysis and design framework with which the effective principles of digital and physical interventions for the 1.5 meter society analyzed and designed with regard to their potential for social and environmental resilience; (2) assess existing interventions based on this framework and map out (potential) effects with regard to resilience bring; (3) translate the framework into a whitepaper and toolbox of process and design options; (4) set up an international, interdisciplinary learning network that, on the one hand, co-develops the framework and on the other hand disseminates the results during and after the project. Research Question: How can the 1.5 meter society at the neighborhood level be shaped with design interventions? given the qualities of the public space, the needs of different target groups, and the possibilities for dealing with the interventions create conditions for social resilience - with attention to the combination of physical and digital solutions?
