Cross-sectoral benefits of action in sanitation: Co-producing policy to guide outcomes in the Sanitation sector and beyond
Set up as a joint initiative between University College London (UCL) and WaterAid, the Cross-sectoral benefits of action in sanitation project aims to translate academic knowledge on the synergies between sanitation and the Sustainable Development Goals into a series policy outputs. Toward achieving equitable sanitation for all (SDG 6), the project aims to build on the ‘global mapping’ research already completed by UCL by co-developing a set of policy guidelines for achieving a range of cross-sectoral benefits in practice. A core focus of this research includes demonstrating the role sanitation plays in achieving all the Sustainable Development Goals, where it can offer a range of benefits for policymakers and users alike. The research team is constituted by a core group of interdisciplinary UCL academics working in engineering, planning, health, and the environment, WaterAid managers involved in sanitation and programme management, and a wider group of WaterAid partners.
