Africa Innovation Ecosystems Study
This work was commissioned and funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), formerly DFID). The overall objective of the African Innovation Ecosystem Study (AIESyS) project was to provide a synthesis of innovation ecosystem development and support initiatives in 10 African countries: South Africa, Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe in Southern Africa; and Nigeria, Ghana and Cameroon in West Africa. It intended to support planning to improve ecosystem facilitation efforts across multiple national and regional stakeholders. The work took a wide approach to innovation ecosystems and included work beyond digital and financial sectors and innovations. Ultimately the aim was to identify ways to achieve better-connected ecosystems that deliver improved uptake of innovations and outcomes for stakeholders and best practice approaches to strengthening networks for facilitating cross-border innovation partnerships across the regions.
