Critical Architecture
My paper ‘Architectural Research and Disciplinarity’, ARQ, v. 8, n. 4, (2004), pp. 141-7 suggests that architectural research is best understood as a complex and diverse subject area which, while adopting a number of disciplinary procedures also maintains a specificity of its own in terms of architectural design. A keynote address in 2005, this paper has produced a series of published responses from international academics in the field, such as Prof David Leatherbarrow, Prof Peter Carl, Dr. Felipe Hernandez. The research informed Critical Architecture, a project examining the relationship between criticism and design in architecture. With Dr Mark Dorrian, (University of Edinburgh), Prof Murray Fraser(University of Westminser) and Prof Jonathan Hill,(UCL) I organized an international conference, funded by the British Academy. I edited Critical Architecture, special issue of the Journal of Architecture, (June 2005), v. 10. n. 3 and co-edited with Jonathan Hill, Murray Fraser and Mark Dorrian (eds.) Critical Architecture, (London: Routledge, 2007).
