Mapping the East End Labyrinth
Following research into urban and suburban settlement patterns using maps and mapped data as primary sources a website was created for Museum of London to illustrate how social exclusion is the outcome of an emergent, complex spatial process. The research is based on theories that suggest that the urban layout can itself have an effect on social outcomes. The site provides insight into how space syntax analysis of historical maps can shed light on the spatial, social and economic structure of the East End of London in the 19th century.
