Jeddah City Centre connectivity and movement impact assessment
Client: Jeddah Development and Urban Regeneration Company (JDURC), Project value: £260k Description: Development of a multi-scale, integrated model for evaluation of the larger City Centre of Jeddah and measuring the impact of the future changes to the city centre and Mega Project within or around the centre. Two quantitative models developed in this project integrate segmental-angular Space Syntax analysis with origin-destination patterns and create a highly advanced tool for measuring not only the impact of changes in the spatial system, but the changes of land uses, densities, attractors and public transportation. A product of this project is a highly accurate ‘traffic forecast flow model’ that could be widely used in strategic planning of large towns and cities. The key deliverables of the project included: final project report, a quantitative model to evaluate the shape and function of the city centre, a strategic vehicular flow forecast model, a full assessment of the existing city centre, an impact assessment of mega projects, and recommendations for improving the centre and mitigating problems caused by major development in the centre of the city.
