Comparative Urbanism and Property-led Development
One of my most significant existing contributions to the academic literature has been the deployment of in-depth case study work in a variety of cities in different contexts. In the UK I have published theoretically-informed studies of development projects in cities such as London and Salford, that have explored a variety of themes including the politics of time in the development process, security planning for urban development, and community mobilisation and its influence on property-led regeneration schemes. Over the last decade I have also worked on comparative studies across the EU and in aspirant Global Cities in East Asia. For example, I have forthcoming papers in IJURR and Urban Studies that explore different aspects of development planning and practices in Taipei and Hong Kong. Ph.D. students I have supervised also work on a suite of international case studies including Stavanger, Rio de Janeiro, Duisburg, Shanghai, and Hong Kong.
