Presynaptic and postsynaptic modulation of Inhibition among GABAergic interneurones
Largely, communication among interneurones was an unexplored aspect of functional hippocampal micro-circuitry; this laboratory focuses on synaptic connections made by highly specialized interneurones whose primary role is to control the inhibition generated by other classes of inhibitory neurones. The modulation of GABA release mediated by a variety of receptors including presynaptic cannabinoid, kainate and metabotropic glutamate receptors, as well as postsynaptic mechanisms, such as depolarisation induced suppression of inhibition (DSI) are currently being investigated.
