We have recently shown that HCN channels are present pre-synaptically at certain synaptic terminals in the entorhinal cortex where they inhibit synaptic release (Huang et al. (2011) Nature Neuroscience, 14, 478-86). We are continuing to explore which the terminals of which neurons express these and how they are affected by plasticity mechanisms.
