iCOASST - Integrated Coastal Sediment Systems
The iCOASST consortium includes a number of UK universities, research laboratories and leading environmental/engineering consultants. This 4-year project develops new approaches to the characterisation and forecasting of long-term changes to coastal sediment systems. The overall aim is to develop, integrate and implement a hierarchical modelling framework that significantly progresses our approach to the understanding of coastal systems and their organisation, and the prediction of coastal behaviour under conditions of change. The project is being progressed through four work packages, and I am centrally involved in work package 1) systems modelling framework (conceptual coastal system mapping), and 2) development of behavioural geomorphic models (new generation of reduced complexity landform modelling). The work is funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), and is partnered by the Environment Agency (EA), who will use these methods to improve long-term flood and erosion risk management.
