Eulerian modelling and CFD simulations of monodisperse and polydiperse fluidized suspensions.
A PhD studentship sponsored by BP Chemicals. The aim of this work was to present the development and experimental validation of new Eulerian mathematical models for the description of the dynamics of fluidized suspensions. This study consisted in the rigorous derivation of the space-averaged equations of motion for monodisperse particulate systems. It then focused on the development of proper constitutive relations required to express the unclosed terms featuring in the space-averaged dynamical equations. The mathematical modelling was finally extended to polydisperse systems so as to account for the particle size distribution which characterizes real powders.
