CFD Modelling of binary gas-solid fluidized beds with industrial application.
A PhD studentship sponsored by Huntsman-Tioxide to investigate the computational modelling of mono component and binary gas-solid fludizeds beds. This work validated the applicability of existing closure models available within a commercial CFD code (CFX 4.4), for mono component systems, to industrial materials. A mathematical derivation of the dynamic interactions between three phases is presented and a new model to account for the fluid particle interaction forces was also developed. An extensive experimental validation of the model was carried out using some industrial materials. New fluid-particle interaction force closures for binary mixture models (two-fluid models) were also derived herein and corresponding CFD simulations were carried out to assess the reliability of the derived mixture models.
