UCl Grand Challenges: Grey Areas - Between Art and the Law
The small grant provided seed funding for the research, development and production of a body of art work which used law as an artistic medium, and which explored and interrogated the phenomenon of extra-legal zones, popularly termed legal ‘black holes’, especially in relation to artistic ideas of negative space and the performativity of language. The resulting works were first exhibited in ‘Legal Fictions’, a solo public exhibition of Carey Young's artistic work at the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst, an internationally renowned contemporary art museum in Zurich, which ran from Sept 1 to Nov 10 2013, and which was accompanied by a series of talks and events. Lead Applicant: Carey Young UCL Slade School of Fine Art Main Collaborator: Dr Ralph Wilde UCL Laws
