The group conducts a wide range of research actvities in clinical and non-clinical areas. Current research areas include:
PTSD & Emotional Memory
Current theories of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) suggest that patients re-experience traumatic memories because of the way they were encoded at the time of the trauma. We are currently conducting a brain scanning memory investigation in fMRI with patients who have PTSD or depression.
Hypervigilance in PTSD
Hypervigilance is one of the 'arousal' symptoms, a core diagnostic criteria for PTSD. We are investigating the use of a new experimental task for assessing hypervigilance in people who were affected by the London bombings of July 2005.
Intrusive Imagery in Depression
High frequency intrusions in depressed patients are thought to maintain the condition. We are conducting a treatment study investigating the effectiveness of a short imagery-focussed treatment for depression.
