Product and Process Systems Engineering
The primary objective of the CAPE group is to develop, to implement and to apply computational methodologies and tools to assist the process industries (from bulk chemicals through to health care products) in the following activities:

  • the design and development of new processes and products through the use of interdisciplinary systems engineering approaches;
  • the effective use of experimental validation and design of experiments;
  • the operation of both new and existing plants with greater efficiency for enhanced resource utilisation, such as the better use of feed stocks, equipment, personnel, energy and other utilities;
  • the consideration of sustainability and safety throughout process design, development and operation; and,
  • aiding analysis and suggesting actions for biomedical and physiological systems with Life and Biomedial Science collaborators.

The new computational methodologies and tools are applied to a number of problem areas including chemical manufacturing systems, bioprocess and bioproduct design, biological systems engineering, biomedical engineering, utility resources management, energy systems, waste minimisation and enterprise-wide decision support systems.
