The Marsh Lab

The Marsh lab is analyzing (i) the mechanisms of HIV virus particle assembly and release, with emphasis on how this relates to AIDS pathogenesis, and (ii) the trafficking of chemokine receptors (particularly CCR5) that mediate HIV entry. They have recently shown that HIV particles are primarily assembled on intracellular compartments in macrophages and not at the plasma membrane as had been assumed. One of their future goals is to develop high-throughput screens to identify inhibitors that prevent virus assembly and CCR5 trafficking.
