The research activities of the Thermofluids Research Group
covers internal combustion engines and fuels systems, turbomachinery,
refrigeration and air-conditioning and microfluidics. This research impacts on
industrial, environmental and medical problems.
Some of the interdisciplinary research activities are conducted in
collaboration other groups at UCL, for example research on microfluidics with
London Centre for Nanotechnology. The research group has strong links with
leading technology companies and government research laboratories, such as BP, Cosworth
Technology, Ford, Jaguar, Lotus Engineering and Shell, ABB Turbo, Ebara
Corporation, Sulzer (MAN) Turbo, US Navy's David Taylor
Model Basin.
There are also many examples of projects where members of the group work with
other universities, for example: theVirtual Centre of Excellence for IC Engines
(with Leeds, Loughborough and Oxford), and with
ETH Zurich on
the design of centrifugal compressors.
The group has good experimental and computational facilities and both
Thermodynamics and Fluids Mechanics laboratories were recently refurbished as a
result of substantial multi-million pound investment by UCL.
