The Leonard Cheshire Research Centre, UCL
The Leonard Cheshire Research Centre (LCRC) is an academic research centre dedicated to generating a body of research about disability issues which helps improve the lives of people with disabilities, those of their families and their communities. A collaboration between Leonard Cheshire Disability and University College London, LCRC undertakes applied research globally, in countries such as Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Kenya, Liberia, Papua New Guinea, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe, to build a strong evidence base for inclusive development. The Centre is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of experts in disability and development who provide regular consultation to actors in the sector, and who regularly disseminate the Centre\'s work to non-academic stakeholders and the general public. Research is funded by grants; current and past funders include The UK Department for Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Economic and Social Research Council, The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, The International Labour Organization and Comic Relief. Some of the centre’s primary areas of focus are inclusive education, poverty alleviation, disability data and health. The Centre also works on global disability and development policy and practice in collaboration and as consultants with UN agencies, national governments, INGOs and local disability advocacy groups as well as provides commentary to the media.
