UCL Centre for Medical Image Computing
The UCL Centre for Medical Image Computing formed in 2005 to combine excellence in medical imaging sciences with innovative computational methodology. It brings together technical researchers at all stages of the imaging pipeline, from emerging imaging techniques and image reconstruction, through image analysis, machine learning and biophysical modelling for understanding disease and deriving imaging biomarkers, to implementing and supporting front-line systems for clinical applications. We have a strong focus on translation of new computational methods in imaging sciences to the clinic and play a vital role at UCL in interfacing technical developments in engineering with clinical research and practice across the various medical faculties and hospitals. Key application areas are neuroscience and neurology, oncology, cardiology, surgery, paediatrics, respiratory diseases, radiotherapy, and many more. We also lead an EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training focussed on medical imaging and work with a variety of industry partners including pharmaceutical companies, scanner and medical device manufacturers, computer technology and AI companies, SMEs developing data-analysis platforms, etc.
