National Institute for Clinical Outcomes Research (NICOR)
clinical audit is designed to improve patient outcomes through the systematic evaluation of clinical practice. The NICOR Executive Committee, Chaired by Prof Roger Boyle, determine the strategic direction of NICOR, in association with the specialist clinical societies and the Department of Health. NICOR has three main objectives: to analyse data held by Central Cardiac Audit Database (CCAD) in areas of cardiac audit. to publish regular output (as agreed by key stakeholders) from these data that help inform the quality of care agenda. to publish additional research output, as determined by NICOR and in conjunction with specialist societies. Currently, the national audits working with NICOR are: Myocardial Ischaemia National Audit Project - Audit lead: Dr John Birkhead and Dr Clive Weston British Cardiovascular Intervention Society (BCIS) - Audit lead: Dr Peter Ludman Society of Cardiothoracic Surgery (SCTS) - Audit lead: Mr Ben Bridgewater British Congenital Cardiac Association (BCCA) - Audit lead: Dr John Gibbs
