Abstract
© Copyright 2015 ACM.People increasingly use smartwatchesin tandem with other devicessuch as smartphones, laptops or tablets. This allows for novel cross-device applications that usethe watch as both input device andoutput display. However, despite the in-creasing availability of smartwatches, prototyping cross-de-vice watch-centricapplicationsremainsa challenging task. Developersare limited in the applications they can explore asavailabletoolkits provide only limited access to different types of input sensorsfor cross-device interactions. To ad-dressthisproblem, we introduce WatchConnect, atoolkit for rapidlyprototyping cross-device applications and interaction techniqueswithsmartwatches. The toolkit provides develop-ers with (i) an extendable hardware platform that emulates a smartwatch, (ii) a UIframeworkthat integrates with an ex-isting UI builder, and (iii) a rich set of input and output events using a range of built-in sensor mappings. We demonstratethe versatility and design space of the toolkitwith fiveinter-action techniques and applications.
