Abstract
The advent of various medical imaging technologies has allowed a previously acquired image of the patient to be used to guide an intervention such as needle placement in the brain for biopsy. Image coordinates of markers are used to generate the relationship between a frame attached to the skull and a path to an integral target. A simple calculation computes the correct course of the needle relative to the coordinates defined by the frame. This entails the key assumption that the image is valid and that the patient's anatomy and pathology have not changed between imaging and intervention.
