Abstract
The motor areas of the cerebral cortex can be defined as those regions that contribute axons to the corticospinal tract and have direct and often reciprocal connections with the primary motor cortex. They are the primary motor cortex, premotor cortex, supplementary motor cortex, and cingulate motor cortex. Each may itself be subdivided into smaller regions with different specialized functions.
