The focus of this paper is on the structural engineering design approach for coreless filament wound composite lattices. This approach has been in active development since the first ICD/ITKE Research Pavilion in 2012. The current approach, described in this paper has been recently tested and validated during the design of the Elytra Filament Pavilion, a 200 m² canopy roof consisting of structural carbon and glass fibre reinforced polymers developed and built by an interdisciplinary collaboration at the University of Stuttgart.
