This mixed methods project combined quantitative longitudinal data with a qualitative investigation of a sub-sample of the 1958 National Child Development Study cohort study (NCDS) when cohort members were age 58. This project represents the second at time that semi-structured qualitative interviews have been conducted with NCDS cohort members. For the first example of qualitative interviews, see the Social Participation Study (SPS) (Elliott et al., 2010), which consists of 220 semi-structured interviews carried out when cohort members were age 50. Like the SPS, the study offers opportunities for qualitative and mixed methods research.
