Annotated Books Online
Abstract
Annotated Books Online is a repository for early modern annotated books. It was initially designed to host my electronic edition of Gabriel Harvey's copy of Livy's History of Rome (cf Jardine & Grafton, '"Studied for action": how Gabriel Harvey read his Livy, Past and Present (1990), 30-78). This edition features complete transcriptions and translations of all the marginalia in this key resource for the history of reading interactively presented alongside hi-res images of the original pages, in a unique Google Maps style presentation especially coded for the site. Partner institutions (Princeton, Utrecht, Amsterdam, Ghent) may upload and transcribe their own annotated books for comparative purposes.
