The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Science and Engineering in Arts, Heritage and Archaeology (SEAHA) is an 8-year initiative (2014-2022) to establish an infrastructure to meet challenges set by the heritage sector, industry and government. Heritage presents complex cross-disciplinary scientific and engineering research questions, ideal for talented graduate students to address. Working with heritage and industry partners, SEAHA students create, innovate or use sensors, instrumentation, imaging, digital and creative technologies to improve our understanding of heritage, to develop science and engineering capabilities and to benefit the economy. SEAHA was created by UCL, University of Oxford and University of Brighton, in collaboration with heritage, scientific, engineering and industrial partners, to: 1. Train researchers internationally to embed new knowledge in best practice addressing the scientific and engineering research needs of the arts, heritage and archaeology sectors; 2. Engage with industry in developing of instruments and tools; 3. Engage practitioners with novel ways of understanding material change; and 4. Engage the public with novel ways of presenting and interpreting heritage. SEAHA will provide support for at least 60 interdisciplinary students working on exciting projects in collaboration with heritage institutions and scientific, engineering and industrial partners.
