Urbanisation Research Nigeria
A five-year, UK Government Department for International Development (DFID)-funded programme of research into urbanization processes in Nigeria. The Development Planning Unit (DPU) at UCL is part of a consortium with ICF International, the Foundation for Development and Environmental Initiatives (FDI), Ibadan, Benue State University, Makurdi, and the University of the West of England, Bristol. The research is divided into four broad themes, including a theme on 'Well-being of Urban Citizens', which the DPU is coordinating. In 2014, the DPU will partner with Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria on a scoping study on well-being of urban citizens in five Nigerian cities. In 2015, DPU academic staff will be involved in a range of specific research projects across the different URN research themes, including parallel projects on Industrial Development and Business-Civic Leadership in Nigeria; Economic Knowledge and the Urban Informal Economy; Transport, Poverty and Well-being in Urban Nigeria; Urban Infrastructure Projects and Displacement; Participatory Well-being Assessment; and Pathways Out of Water Poverty.
