Research Summary
I'm a Postdoctoral Fellow since 2010 in Nick Luscombe's group.  I'm interested in transcriptional gene regulation by epigenetic mechanisms. I did my PhD with Thomas Jenuwein at the Institute of Molecular Pathology in Vienna where I characterised an embryonic stem cell line lacking the histone methyltransferase enzymes responsible for pericentric heterochromatin. By comparing the behaviour of impaired cells to normal ones, I examined the importance of these enzymes - and the histone methylation marks they make - in controlling differentiation and reprogramming. For my post-doc, I'm investigating whether histone-modifying enzymes expressed by bacterial pathogens play a role in modulating the host cell’s response during infection.
