Biography

Andrew is reader in statistics jointly in the Research Department of Infection and Population Health, and the Hub for Trials Methodology Research at the MRC Clinical Trials Unit, University College London. He has been employed at UCL since 1994, during which time he completed a part-time PhD in statistics. Andrew reviews papers for several journals in statistics, epidemiology and sexual health and grant applications for funders such as NIHR. He is associate editor for the journals Sexually Transmitted Infections and Statistics in Medicine.

Research Summary

Andrew's expertise in in medical statistics and he pursues research both in the methodology of that field, and its application to research in infectious disease epidemiology. He has considerable experience of working collaboratively with scientific colleagues on a range of study designs from lab research through to individual and cluster randomized clinical trials, epidemiological studies and surveys. Much of this research has been within the sexual health field, and Andrew heads a small statistical team at the UCL Centre for Sexual Health Research. He collaborates with researchers at the UCL Institutes for Women’s Health and Global Health, and researchers outside UCL. He is co-investigator for several ongoing and completed funded studies. He also pursues a programme of methodological research, which includes methods of analysis when some data are missing, the design and analysis of cluster randomised trials, methods for meta analysis, and the analysis of longitudinal data.
