After a period working as a research statistician for Help the Hospices care of the dying project at UCL Community Medicine, Angie Wade joined the Institute of Child Health and Great Ormond Street hospital to provide statistical support for researchers. Since joining ICH in 1990, she has developed an extensive teaching program and provided, or contributed to, the advisory service. The Statistical Support Service had been in operation formally since 2000 and she is currently Director of this ( www.ucl.ac.uk/ich/services/sss ). She has worked as an expert witness within high profile cases of child abuse, is a member of the Wellcome Bloomsbury Centre Policy Group and runs a local Statistics Group, comprising all statisticians employed within UCL ICH and GOSH. 

Research Summary

Angie Wade is an experienced research statistician with over 130 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. Currently she has collaborative grants with the Wellcome Trust, British Heart Foundation, CF Trust, NIHR and the MRC. Previous collaborative grants have been with the Birth Defects Foundation, Ka Tutandike charitable trust (to provide research support in Uganda), SPARKS, Action Research, the National Kidney Research Foundation and the British Association of Pediatric Surgeons. Other research related activities include statistical journal editorship (BMJ and Journal of Clinical Pathology) and review, expert panel membership (HTA, NIHR and NHS R&D review) and PhD supervision. Her own PhD was on the construction of cross-sectional covariate related centiles using likelihood-based methods and she has continued to publish in this area.

Teaching Summary

Angie Wade has been involved in the provision of statistical training to medically based non-statisticians since 1988. She is currently Director of Statistics and Research Methods Training at the UCL Institute of Child Health and runs a wide range of introductory statistics courses. Additionally, she runs several MSC modules, a BSc module and provides training for MRCPCH students in the form of formal lectures and written material. Angie has previously provided training in Nepal and Uganda, the latter primarily for students with disabilities. Teaching is a major part of her academic life, she is an active member of local teaching committees and chair of an examining board.
