Prof Joe Cain was trained in the US, with a BSc in zoology, an MA in history (history and philosophy of science), and a PhD from University of Minnesota in history and philosophy of science. After several years in publishing and a Visiting Professorship at University of Oklahoma, he arrived at UCL in 1996. 
Research Summary

Prof Joe Cain's research interests include the history of evolutionary studies, natural history, and biology, and palaeontology. He also has expertise in Darwin and Darwinism as well as history of science and society in London.

Teaching Summary

Prof Joe Cain teaches history and philosophy of science, and science and technology studies, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Modules variously survey the history of life sciences and offer detailed study of Darwinism in both science and society.
